Description: Topographic map of the southern half of the North Island, with especial emphasis on the Wairarapa valley, showing natural features and stands of timber; the Maori names for some of these features are given, together with names and locations of some pa . Includes the surveyors' route which began on 1st. June, ca. 1848, from a site along the Manawatu River to the Ruamahanga River, Lake Wairarapa, ending at the Hutt River on 20 June. Description: Two sheets of the map of the central route railway, North Island main trunk railway, Turangarere section, each covering up to one mile distance along the Hautapu River. Milage is running from Turangarere towards Taihape. Both sheets show tracks, sheet 2 shows Roapoama's house opposite 70 chains and the track from Moawhango and Marton, while sheet 3 shows a U-turn bend in the track and good sites for platelayer's cottages. The lower diagram in each map is a cross section of the same distance, measuring heights, formation levels, distances and gradients. Maps signed by R W Holmes, 26/11/[18]89. 'Copy of PWD 16466'. Description: Survey map of Hakeri no. 6F (corrected in pencil to no. 4F), Waikawa showing the property claimed by James and Robert Ranfield as 361-2-0 acres (corrected in red ink to 363-2-0 acres). Distinguishable features of the property include the sea in the west, the Waikawa River, Hakeri, the Okaka swamp, Ngata Rata stream and Pukahu. Original title: 'Hakeri no. 6F ...' changed by pencil annotation. Several manuscript corrections to map, as per note on map 'NB: BF corrected in terms with Wairawa surveys - WIB'. Description: Copy of a topographic map of the Wellington region from Port Nicholson and Paliser Bay following the Ruamahanga River to the Manawatu River to the coast at Foxton. The Rimutaka and Tararua Ranges are named as are rivers, bays, heads, some settlements, tracks and roads. Some sections are marked and pa sites. Wakefield, Tiffin and Kettle have made descriptive notes about the terrain, views and navigable rivers on the map as well as at the bottom of it. Note on catalogue card states: Photocopy of col. Description: Topographic and cadastral map of Clifton, Pahiatua from the Pahiatua Railway Station to the Mangatainoka Railway Station, Mangatainoka Central Road and Main Road. A reference key refers to tenure of freehold and leasehold land, also acreages of sections and paddocks. Additional pencilled notes in some freehold sections include a number for each section and the acreage. Notes in the reference key state that the leasehold land is comprised of Education Reserve and Wellington Corporation Reserve with references to improvement clauses. Includes the road and railway line towards Woodville, and the site of a railway crossing. Bridges are shown on the Mangatainoka River. Includes butter factories, a school, hotel, post offfice, Bank of New South Wales, Bank of New Zealand, and sale yards, yards and dip. The direction towards Mangahao and Palmerston is given, also to Balance. Includes two sections of leasehold land on the road to Makuri, adjacent to Main Road. Sites of some homesteads are given and owners' names are: Walker, Marsh, Page, Lloyd, C. Beetham, Abraham and Williams. The enlargement is of part of the two sections on the road to Makuri, adjacent to Main Road, showing the sites of farm buildings. The note 'Plan of homestead' is written across the enlargement, but buildings listed are: dwelling, wash-house, wood and fowl shed, tool and trap shed, hay shed, bull shed, also the woolshed - cow shed - stable. Title of the enlargement supplied by cataloguer and is a combination of information taken from a pencilled note on bottom right which states: Mr. C. Beetham's 1046 acres, Pahiatua, and the subject of the enlarged map. Quantity: 2 manuscript map(s) on one sheet.
