The Maori letters include information about the meanings of various Maori words, intelligence about the Waikato and Taranaki campaigns in the New Zealand Wars and the establishment of the Kingitanga, ethnographic information, and a call for a review of Maori educational spending The printed Maori material includes a proclamation from the Governor calling for the end to intertribal hostilities, and an open letter from Wi Tako decrying Maori resistance to the Government in Taranaki and calling for peace.
