Buildings and structures other than main homesteads include woolsheds, manager's houses, a meat freezing factory (Belfast), the Port Robinson slipway, stock yards, worker's whares, ferret houses, and Glenmark Station's extensive lakes and water features. Images are almost exclusively of the exterior of buildings with only the interiors of woolsheds seen. Many images include the families that lived in the houses and often their dogs. Farm workers are seen in some images. Farm animals pictured include sheep, horses, mules, farm dogs, and oxen. Activities such as shearing with a Wolseley Sheep Shearing Machine, wool sorting, wool scouring, wool transportation (horse drawn carts and ox wagons), sheep dipping, and sheep drafting are shown. Description: A menu and toast list produced for the occasion of a celebratory lunch. The toast list includes toasts by: The Premier, Mr W T L Travers, Sir Julius Vogel, Mr H D Bell, Mr J Plimmer, Mr G V Shannon, Mr T K McDonald, Mr E T Gillon, Mr D J Nathan. The front cover shows a steam train engine and coal carriage. The menu includes turkey, chicken, ducks, roast lamb, roast beef, aspic of potted head, chicken pies, veal and ham pies, beefsteak & oyster pies, giblet pies, boiled ham, boiled tongue, salads, mayonnaise of lobster; apple, gooseberry and rhubarb tarts, jellies, creams, charlotte russe, open tarts, meringues, fruit in season; champagne, sauterne, port, sherry, claret, etc. In pieces. Description: Sir William F D Jervois was born at Cowes, Isle of Wight, the son of General William Jervois. He entered the Royal Military Academy in 1837. In 1839 he was 2nd Lieut. Royal Engineers and rose to be Colonel Commandant of Royal Engineers 1893. In 1875 he was appointed governor of Straits Settlements, in 1877 appointed adviser on defence to the governments of the Australian colonies and in July the same year was appointed Governor of South Australia. After five years of successful administration in South Australia, Jervois was appointed to New Zealand, taking up his duties on 20 January 1883. Quantity: 1 b&w original photographic print(s).
