Description: Shows a view of the group of wooden buildings making up the first Auckland buildings of St John's College. Shows a two-storeyed building in the right foreground, with several figures sitting and standing in front of it, a row of four houses nearby and further houses at the far left, with fences linking the buildings over the cleared land. At the river is a stream, probably Purewa Creek and to the west, hilltops including Mt Wellington and a higher flat plateau in the distance (possibly Mount Hobson). See also a sketch of the same subject, from the same vantage point, by Thomas Biddulph Hutton, at Auckland Art Gallery, accession number 1939/17/1. Quantity: 1 watercolour(s).
