Description: Photographs of military forces, Wellington and members of the Wellington Kennel Club, taken ca 1880s-1900. Photographs of members of B, D and F Battery of an artillery regiment taken at the Military Tournament at Hutt Race Course on 9th November 1891. They are standing or kneeling with their swords and their insignia can be seen on their arms. Portrait of the 1st New Zealand Contingent, taken November 1899 by Feeney Photo. Two men in naval uniform and one possibly in a mounted rifles uniform outside a tent ca 1890s. The names given are Campbell and Bell (naval) and Moorhouse. Men of an artillery regiment at the Military Tournament at Hutt Race Course in 1891 next to a wheeled gun. The names given are: Brown, Grise(?), Perrin, Burn, Tuckey, Howe, Tineman(?), Johnston, Jeffreys. The Education Board Offices on Mercer Street of which the Technical School occupied the second storey ca 1889 with a number of people in the yard outside. Description: Collection comprises: Photograph of road works in Ghuznee Street, Wellington, ca 1950s, by Pacific Photos, Courtney Place, Wellington. 3 photographs of Seaview, taken from the top of the Wainuiomata Hill in 1950 by Wal Richardson. Album leaf with 5 photographs of Wellington, ca 1860s-1900s, including preparations for visit of Duke of Edinburgh to Wellington, wedding of Ted and Amy Yates, portrait of a woman, Te Aroha Bathhouse and fire damage in Lambton Quay. Duke of Edinburgh visited New Zealand in 1869. Cadman Bathhouse opened in 1898. Quantity: 4 b&w original photographic print(s). 1 album leaf with 5 b&w original photographic prints. Provenance: Donated by Wainuiomata Historical Society, October 2002, through Mrs Vicky Alexander. The photographs were given to the society by the late Mrs Claire Burdan, whose husband was descended from Richard & Mary Prouse, and from the Dixon family, of the Dixon aerated water business. The photographs appear to have come from these families.

Description: Recent prints from old photographs of Wellington, originallty taken between about 1841 and 1929. Includes one photograph of a painting of Wellington waterfront from 1841, by Charles Heaphy. Only a few images identify the photographers, the Burton Brothers, Tyree Brothers and James Bragge. The Bragge photograph (looking down to the Harbour from Hill Street taken in the 1880s) was identified from his horse-drawn carriage with his name and occupation emblazoned on the side. Description: Three photographic prints of images taken in Wellington by photographer James Bragge between circa 1860 and circa 1902. A wide view overlooking Thorndon, Wellington City, taken from The Terrace circa 1870. It shows the city buildings, including St Mary's Cathedral, Government House, Old St Pauls's Church, domestic houses, and early reclaimation work on the harbour's edge. On extreme lower right of frame, two women walking on a path are visible. A view taken of four men posing on Swinburne's Wharf, Wellington. Visible in the background are wooden buildings on the shoreline and some moored sailing vessels at the wharves. Print is captioned "Swinbourne Wharf Willis St". A view of colonial wooden buildings lining Lambton Quay, with a horse and cart on the Quay beside the shoreline. In the foreground is a pile of planks; and to left of frame is a large wooden building. Print is captioned "Lambton Quay showing back of the Central Club". Also includes a card matt with an embossed photographers stamp pasted on to it reading "James Bragge Portrait & Landscape Photographer Wellington N Z". Record title supplied by Library Quantity: 3 b&w original photographic print(s). 1 item(s) of photographic ephemera card matt. Physical Description: Black and white albumen prints, mounted on card which has been trimmed, two prints are captioned by hand in ink; and a card matt Provenance: Private purchase, 2015. No further provenance information known. Processing information: The prints came to the Library with card mounts which were a later addition to the prints. One card mount was retained as it has the photographer's stamp attached. The other mounts were discarded as they were not of an archival housing standard.

Description: 21 cartes-de-visites taken circa 1858 to circa 1860s. Some taken by William Henry Davis and/or his father William Henry Whitmore Davis. Others taken by Batt & Richards. Other photographers are possibly also represented. 19 show scenes in Wellington. The other two are copies, one of a painting, one of an illuminated address (this one by H T Gourlay, Christchurch). Some images have inscriptions in pencil on the reverse. Images include streets, buildings, people, horse and carts, harbour and wharf with ships. An envelope and a letter dated 1958, from the Alexander Turnbull Library to Mr M Davis of Wellington regarding the copying of 21 photographs, are included. Accompanying information - Envelope that held the cartes-de-visite, and an accompanying letter dated 22 August 1958, from C R H Taylor, Chief Librarian of the Alexander Turnbull Library, to Mr M Davis of 9 Aruarua Street, Wellington.
