Description: Includes site plan, with original wattle and daub cottage and proposed museum position shown; cottage plan and west elevation; and two alternative subdivision schemes. The cottage was occupied by William Jenkins (1813-1902) by 1867. His wife Pairoke had died in 1853, and Jenkins and his second wife and many children lived in Wharemauku, Porirua, and Wairarapa, before settling in Otaki. This plan for the Historic Places Trust, for preserving this 1867 cottage was not proceeded with, and the wattle and daub cottage was demolished in 1986. It was beyond repair. There is still a wooden cottage from the Rangiuru end of the site; it has been transferred to a site in Otaki Gorge Road, and was being restored by Mr Graham Atmore from about 1996 (information from Mr Malcolm Pearce, as of January 1998). The Library also holds ink and pencil plans on draughting paper, at Plans-2009-082-7566-001/004. Quantity: 4 plan(s) stapled together.. Physical Description: Diazo prints, 760 x 517 mm. Description: Bevan describes incidents in his life in the Otaki and Manawatu districts from 1840 to the 1860s. He was the son of a rope maker and followed his father's trade and farmed. He refers in particular to relationships between Maori and settlers and includes descriptions of Maori pa, legends, customs and the scenery, and a walk he made as a child in 1845 from Wellington to Waikawa, Otaki. Description: Album of photographs probably taken by George W Barltrop (who was at one time president of the Nelson Camera Club), between 1899 and 1902. Scenes include group portraits of Labour Day celebrations by the Missions to Seamen in 1900 and 1901; Prince of Wales birthday celebrations in 1901; members of a camera club (possibly in the Hutt Valley, associated with a Mr Stevens); and views of Island Bay and French Pass, with close-up views of the anchor and a sailor standing at the steering wheel on a fishing boat. In the South Island there are views of the Blenheim Road, Havelock Road, Wakapuaka Road, Cable Bay, and Bishops Peninsula (?). Two images show Indian troops who came to New Zealand as part of the tour by the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall and York in 1901.
