Description: Map showing the East Cape, Bay of Plenty, Tauranga, Northern Hawkes Bay and just south of Taupo. Shows Te Kooti's approximate route, and direction (arrows on line) and his engagements with the Hauhau people. Stops at certain pa are dated, some added text (before photocopy) e.g. "Final escape to King Country", "Visit to Takangamutu". Key stops included Opape, Tologa Bay, Turanga, Whakatane, Rotorua, Te Pourere, Puketapu. The linking areas for all these points was the Urewera country. Te Kooti was a Rongowhakaata leader, military leader, prophet, religious founder, pursued by colonial forces, eventually took refuge in the King Country where Te Kooti remained until pardoned in 1883. Description: A cadastral map of rural and suburban sections open for sale and selection of the area from Lake Horowhenua to Koputuroa Road, and bounded by the Kawiu and Makomako Roads. This cadastral map has numbered sections, some coloured, and include acreages and owners' names handwritten in some sections. The Wellington - Manawatu Railway is marked as are a school and a waterworks reserve. Streets and the Koputuroa Stream are named. The base maps are of sections in the Blocks I, II & VI, Waiopehu Survey District. Sections marked with red are large settlements open for sale or selection and are referred to in a key. Schedule of the suburban sections and rural lands in this district include the section number, acreage, value and rent. Terms and conditions of sale or selection of the Levin village settlement include the statement 'Drawn by F.J. Hales'. Includes a written description of rural land and the application date of 18 March 1889 at the Crown Lands Office, Wellington and includes J.W.A. Marchant's name. Description: Copy of a topographic map of the area in the Murimotu District from the Kaiiwi River and the Ohura River across to Lake Taupo, the Kaimanawa Ranges and the Rangitikei River. Cut road lines, proposed lines and native tracks are referred to in a reference key. Some tracks are routes proposed by Mr. Hogg and Mr. Booth, also an old war track described by natives is marked. Plantations, mountain peaks, rivers and streams are named. Relief features are described. Major Marshall's and Birch's Station are marked. Handwritten note on bottom right of map: The lake and mountains are from Hochstetter's map corrected by the Auckland Trig Survey: the Wanganui River from Brewer's survey, and the Upper Turakina and Rangitikei from Swainson's map corrected by Monro's survey. Description: Cadastral map of Evans Bay to Kilbirnie, also to Constable and Owen streets, Newtown, Wellington. The area includes the coastline with Patent Slip and proposed jetties near Belvedere Road to Rodrigo Road, Kilbirnie. Numbered sections include acreages and some sites of houses. Description: Survey map showing subdivisions of Pt. 3c, Akura Block, Block IV Tiffen, situated 3 km north of Masterton, Southern Wairarapa, between Waiopoua and Waingawa rivers. Shows the first subdivisions into 3c 1, 3c 2, 3c 4. 3c is shown bounded by 3b to the left and 3a, d and b to the left and 5 1 below. Akura no.2 is to the right. The name Akura means 'entrance to a fortified pa'. Shows two roads, Akura Road and Kibblewhite Road. Part 3c specifies the location of the urupa (17) or cemetery on the roadside of Kibblewhite Road. Also specifies five subdivisions or lots of land on Pt 3c 4 (1100 each) belonging to members of the Karaitiana family: Waha o te Rangi Karaitiana, Ote ne Kuku Karaitiana, Arawhita Karaitiana and Te Ouai Karaitiana. Description: Ink and pencil annotations on partly hand coloured map (incomplete - only part blue colour and some red for proposed roads). The pencil annotations add crosses (population) and accidental orange brush stroke indicate draft copy. Map is hand coloured to a key that reads: 'Lines of road proposed to be made - red. Local position of Military settlements - red circles. Lines of road to be made at a future period - brown. The crosses (black) represent the distribution of the Native Population approximately each cross representing about 100 souls.' The military settlements are most dense in the Wanganui, South Taranaki, New Plymouth, Waipa, Waikato and South Waikato districts and north of the Manawatu River. Description: Cadastral map showing area 9 miles south of Tauranga, from the Ruahihi Bridge bordering the Kumi Kumi land blocks on the west and the Kaimai and the Tauwharawhara on the east. The Mangapapa River is shown, along with the Mangakarengorengo, Ngaumuwahine and Manga Hurengorengo Streams. Most of the land blocks indicate their acreage. In the Whaitikuranui no. 6b block, diagram and text which reads 'Thames Valley Co. Station Homestead'. The road or track from Cambridge (Okoroire) to Tauranga is shown to be 31 miles. A pencil annotation shows the Ongaonga no. 2 block and the Kumi Kumi no. 1 block (up to the Ngaumuwahine Stream) subdivided. The map has pencil and some ink annotations.
