Description: Te Puni standing, with full facial moko, clad in a dogskin cloak and holding a taiaha in his right hand. Behind him is Petone Pa, and a flagpole with the New Zealand Company flag on the right. The western Hutt hills are in the background. After the drawing by Charles Heaphy. See lithograph entitled `Epuni, or greedy... '. Engraver unknown. Accompanying text reads: Annexed is a portrait of Epemi, a chief of Port Nicholson, in North Island. He is tattooed, wears the native robe, and carries a long spear; but most of the chiefs are familiar with the musket and their strength is counted not by men but by muskets.
