By: Nairn, Francis Edward, 1819?-1910
Reference: C-126-013
Description: Shows bullock dray in right foreground, between tall trees especially on left side of track. There are close hills in the background. Artist and date ascertained from very similar works held in Rex Nan Kivell Collection (Vol. III, page 53, item 3842-43). ATL has file prints of these in Drawings & Prints. Nairn, who arrived in Taranaki in 1841, was on the move in the 1860s, probably as a goldminer, since he drew scenes in the Otago gold fields in 1863 and had settled in Collingwood by the 1880s and probably before then. This is likely therefore to be a South Island scene, with the balance of probability being that is it the Collingwood area, possibly the road to Collingwood from Nelson. Other Titles - Road to Collingwood? Inscriptions: Unsigned and undated. Quantity: 1 watercolour(s). Physical Description: Watercolour, 730 x 500 mm.
