Description: Views of the Otago Region taken by unidentified photographers, circa 1870s to 1895. Many show buildings in Dunedin, including one house `Lisburn House' built for the Fulton family in 1865; also commercial buildings, church buildings, school buildings (Otago Boys' High School), and Dunedin Gaol. The church buildings include the Chapel in Leith Street, the Chapel in Great King Street, and the Baptist Chapel. Description: Exhibition certificate with decorative border using Maori carving and weaving patterns. Inside the border, and surrounded by native flowers, are eight vignettes depicting various scenes of the NZ economy (coal mining, sheep farming, scientific research, wheat harvesting, etc). Additional scenes of trade and industry and the agricultural economy are depicted in a panel forming the top of an archway. On either side are supporting columns topped with the lion and the unicorn. At the bottom is a view of Dunedin city showing First Church and other buildings in Moray Place and the surrounding area with Otago Harbour in the background. Description: Views of New Zealand collected by Invercargill firm Erskine & Whitmore. Scenes taken by various photographers including Hart, Campbell & Co., and Coxhead & Le Sueur. Several views show Queenstown under floods in 1878; others of the Queenstown-Lakes Region, Waitati, Gore and Dunedin in the South Island. In the North Island, one shows a large picnic party travelling in three horse-drawn coaches, stopped at Ngauranga; many show a range of steam locomotives including J Class, K Class, F43, E22, H Class and A Class, in the Upper Hutt area, the Wairarapa, and on the Rimutaka line. Several at the end of the album show the effects of a major slip which blocked the mouth of the Summit Tunnel at the top of the Rimutaka Incline. At the right are smaller diagrams of one vertical and three horizontal sections through the range, showing chimney flue, damper rod, directing rod for draught, oven shelf brackets, fire.
