Description: Contains three parchment land deeds relating to the Williams family [CMS] of Bay of Islands. ET/LT:005 is a land purchase document of Henry Williams purchasing land in Hokianga on 23 July 1856. Includes pencil annotations on the outside of the document including `Taratara' which may refer to Taratara Peak (also known as St Paul's). Also includes the Governor's offical seal. ET/LT: 006 is dated 24 April 1860 and includes Henry Williams Jun. Esq. to John William Williams Esq. Includes a hand drawn coloured map on the inner page. The following places are named on the map: Okorari Creek, Taratara and Pukeawa. It is also dated and stamped on the outside by the `Registrar Auckland' Wed 9 May 1860. ET/LT: 007 includes Henry Williams Jun Esq. to Venerable Octavius Hadfield and wife. It is dated 24 April 1860. It contains a hand drawn coloured map, showing the following places: Okorari Creek, Taratara and Pukeawa. Description: Ink and pencil annotations on partly hand coloured map (incomplete - only part blue colour and some red for proposed roads). The pencil annotations add crosses (population) and accidental orange brush stroke indicate draft copy. Map is hand coloured to a key that reads: 'Lines of road proposed to be made - red. Local position of Military settlements - red circles. Lines of road to be made at a future period - brown. The crosses (black) represent the distribution of the Native Population approximately each cross representing about 100 souls.' The military settlements are most dense in the Wanganui, South Taranaki, New Plymouth, Waipa, Waikato and South Waikato districts and north of the Manawatu River. No such settlements are identified around Wellington, Auckland, Napier or the East Coast north of Mahia. Quantity: 1 map(s).
