The buildings in the view are from the left: Pomare Hall, Hood's House (later Nairn House), Ngati Mutunga house (in the foreground), Seymour's house in bend of the river with Mangape house, Piripari house (right hand side of river). Photographed by Karl Gerstenkorn between 1890 and 1895. Seymour's house was built in 1867 by Sellwood. Mangape house was built by the missionaries, Engst and Baucke in about 1859. Description: Photographs of New Zealand scenes taken between circa 1890s and circa 1940s, chiefly by James Caleb Cornwall. Many images have a brief explanatory captions. Contains images including a kapa haka group performing on a barge, a building decorated for Royal [Coronation 1937?] with cameo portraits of George VI and Queen Elizabeth, animals at a zoo (pelican and [thar?]), a thermal area, and a bush scene. Transportation is featured, with photographs showing trains (locomotives and carriages, including a Fairlie locomotive) and railway architecture (train tracks and Main Trunk Line viaduct) as well as car and horse and cart scenes. Places and buildings include Hastings Main Street, Blenheim Memorial (clock tower and fountain), Palmerston North (including birds on pond [Domain?], a church, shops, and the main square), Arthurs Pass and Porters Pass, a Coromandel homestead, house and garden of Cara [Sawings?], and [Otago Settlers?] Museum, Dunedin. Album of photographs of a journey in Canada

Description: The first and largest section of this album records a trip in Canada and possibly the United States, made by a young man with a motor car about 1923. The second section are photographs taken on a visit to possibly Hawaii or Tahiti. Local people are recorded as well as a number of yachts tied up along the waterfront of a town, and a white warship. The third section include family photographs taken in Britain in the 1890s, and several shipboard views, two of which show what are probably crossing the line ceremonies involving a canvas swimming pool. Pauatahanui and Wellington

Description: This collection contains the contents of two albums. First album group relates to Pauatahanui, Porirua. Includes - Unidentified house. Grave stone of Len Walker who died in 1897 aged 100 years. View of St Adan's Anglican Church. View of St Joseph's Roman Catholic Church. Views of an overgrown cemetery. Second album is mostly views of the Government centre and environs, Wellington. Most of this material dates from the late 1940s to the early 1950s and includes - The wooden Government building (now Law School). The Centotaph. Turnbull House (then the Alexander Turnbull Library). Wellington Railway Station. Bowen House. Magistrates Court. Bowen Street. Lambton Quay. Bunny Street. Molesworth Street. Government Printing Office. Parliament buildings and grounds. The old High Court building. Brick store on Waterloo Quay (now apartments). Hotel Waterloo. Defence Department building, Bunny Street (demolished about 1994). Other Wellington photographs taken by the Evening Post in November 1964 include a view of Manners Street, and two photographs of Wellington traffic. There is one photograph of houses and gardens in Regent Street, Newtown, dated 9 August 1962. This is part of a group of views of a site for Wellington City Council housing taken before demolition for that project began. Earlier photographs include - View of Kaikoura, ca 1910. They were removed because the plastic enclosures had become degraded and sticky, and were bonding with the prints. The photographs have been kept in the sequence that they were in, when the album was received by the Library.
