Description: South Island views include Akaroa township and Robinson's Bay, Stewart Island, Port Chalmers and Dunedin. Localities in Otago and Central Otago, include goldrush areas like Tuapeka. Milford Sound, Oamaru, and the cities of Christchurch, and Nelson are also featured. North Island locations include cities and towns such as Wellington, Auckland, Ohinemutu and Gisborne. There are standard tourist features like the Pink and White Terraces, and geysers. There is also one group of photographs of Maori. Some notable buildings are also depicted. From outside New Zealand there are views of Honolulu, Yellowstone Park USA, Canada including Toronto, Otawa, and the Niagra Falls. Views From Britain are made up mainly of Edinburgh and some of its principal buildings, and well known London buildings such as the National Gallery and Westminster Abbey. Description: Small book of photographs of early Auckland and some Maori studies. Two of the photographers are John Kinder and Hartley Webster but there may be others unidentified. Arrangement: Negatives housed at: 1/4-015157 to 015172 and 1/2-018462 to 018463 Processing information: It is believed that the album was dismantled after deposit. The two original prints mounted on one small page in this collection may be from the album. Knowledge of the other images comes from the reference to Bennett's deposit on the back of the file prints. The album has been taken apart and only two original prints are still locatable.

A path at far left leads away over the hill, presumably towards the settlement. In the middle distance is a group of buildings beside a wharf, beside which a small ship is anchored. Description: Shows a view across foreground trees and fern, to the buildings of St John's College and its surrounding garden. Part of the curved driveway is visible past the trees. The chapel is to the left on the horizon beyond the college buildings, and the wardens' house is on the far right. The tree at the far right may be a large weeping willow. Perspective lines are drawn across the tops the the roofs or the college and through the garden. Notes on the image indicate "fern" and "light green"; probably notes for a later painting. Other Titles - St John's Inscriptions: Recto - beneath image - [Title] Quantity: 1 watercolour(s). Physical Description: Sepia wash over pencil on paper, 258 x 364 mm. Provenance: The work was originally in a scrapbook (Album 2, leaf 16 recto) purchased from a second-hand shop in Auckland in the 1950s by Mr Harry Rodewald of Auckland (Vendor catalogue, Spring 2006). Dismounted and sold separately with other Kinder drawings in the early 1980s.
