Description: The papers consist of: Application form submitted by Leonard Willaim Jury, great-great-grandson of the original owner; history of the Jury family. This history was compiled by Len Jury, ca 1985 and includes a history of the farm as well as information about the William Bryan, the Battle of Waireka, reminiscences related to the family and local history. Copy of article by NZ Historic Places Trust entitled `Archaeological investigations: Jury and Autridge farmsteads, Omata' (2007) The original owner was Elizabeth (nee Hoskin) wife of Jesse (Justinian) Jury. She purchased 46 acres of the Omata Block from the Plymouth Company in 1847. The Jury family arrived in New Plymouth on the `William Bryan' in 1841. In 2007 Leonard William Jury and his wife Heather owned the property at Omata and were awarded the New Zealand Century Farm and Station award to mark over 100 years of continuous ownership by one family. Description: The papers consist of: Application form submitted by Nora Elizabeth Kenworthy-Thompson; original land grant to John McBeth; verification when farm was passed to Murdoch McBeth, and later to Nora Kenworthy-Thompson; line of ownership, 1860-2005; narrative of family history and family pedigree (5 generational chart); photographs John McBeth and his wife Ann came to New Zealand from Nova Scotia with Ann's father Murdoch Mclennan. They were granted 160 acres of land at Kauri, Northland in 1867. He broke in the land and in 1874 built a homestead on the property. John grew vegetables on the land and over time acquired a small dairy herd. On his death in 1900 the farm was taken over by his son Murdoch and then by his daughter Nora who married Ralph Kenworthy-Thompson. See also Burtenshaw, May. From castle to cave. His surveying partner was Joseph ward. He took up land in the Omaka Valley in 1846 and named his property Hawkesbury.
