Description: The essay traces the family history of James Anderson Brass who farmed at Orphir in the Orkney Isles. In 1863 he emigrated with his second wife and eight children to Southland on `Edward Thornhill' and farmed at Waikiwi near Invercargill for many years. His family eventually grew to 16 and a brief biography of each is included. Includes extracts from shipboard diary kept during the voyage to New Zealand Quantity: 1 folder(s).
