Description: Translations and transcripts of manuscripts on French explorers in New Zealand including Adolphe-Pierre Lesson's botanical notes on the voyage of the `Astrolabe', (Astrolabe Harbour, Jan-Mar 1827); Lesson's medical report on the voyage of the `Astrolabe',(Toulon 3 Apr 1829); a report (Mar 1826) and instructions for Dumont D'Urville, Captain of `La Coquille' (re-named `Astrolabe') on his voyage of exploration, with a covering letter signed by Count de Rosily of the French Admiralty; report by Dumont d'Urville (Bay of Islands 14 Mar 1827) on the voyage of the `Astrolabe' and a report by Dumont D'Urville on possible sites for a colony in New Zealand. Also a transcript of pages 389-859 of Lesson's Journal Historique, the original of which is in the Bibliotheque Municipale de Rochefort. Electronic material of these transcripts and translations accompanied this material.
