Description: The essay provides the earliest known history of the Trescowthick family in Cornwall, details of Elizabeth's parentage, early life in Padstow, Cornwall, marriage to John Henwood and life in London and Kent. The Henwoods immigrated to Canterbury in 1856 on the `Joseph Fletcher'. The essay describes their life in the new settlement, Kaiapoi floods of 1860s, financial ruin, their family and final years.
