Description: Photograph album compiled by Arthur Arrowsmith ca 1900 for Sydney Hislop. Contains views of scenery between Picton and Nelson, including Picton from the wharf, Brownlee's sawmill, Pelorus River and Pelorus Sound, the road and surrounding bush, men waiting for the mail on a stony beach, and an accommodation house halfway between Picton and Nelson. Description: Clift and Jones family photographs. New Zealand towns and landscapes, in particular Wellington and Brooklyn. A record of the British aircraft carrier Indefatigable when it visited Wellington in November 1945. New Zealand houses and a very good wedding breakfast laid out in a private interior of the 1890s. There is a photograph of the Clift house in Washington Avenue, Brooklyn, and of a Christmas gathering at a house in Patanga Crescent associated with the Holm family of the Holm shipping line. Description: Corliss has not kept a daily diary but rather an occasional journal describing special occasions such as a family holiday to Picton, a train trip from Petone to Wellington, aspects of her teaching career, lists of stories she had written, her musical interests, and a voyage to England on the `Ayrshire' in 1914, where she studied music. Included with the volume is a copy of a letter from George H Valentine to his brother (from Lefevers Peninsula, Port Adelaide, 7 Sep 1859), and notes re the `Annie Wilson' which arrived at Wellington 22 March 1854. Part of the Archive of New Zealand Music Source of title - Supplied by diarist Accompanying material - As well as the letter from Valentine to his brother (1859) there are items (photocopied) regarding the voyage of the `Annie Wilson' (1854) which appear to have been kept with the journal; accompanying the journal is a letter from the donor giving additional information about the Corliss family and himself, a direct descendant of Amos Burr of the `Tory'. Description: Album of South Island scenes (except for a few taken en route to Wellington showing The Brothers, Pencarrow Head, and one of a group having a picnic at Muritai). Probably mostly photographed by George William Barltrop. The first section shows the Nelson and Marlborough areas, and several photographs of ships at sea, one shipwreck (the Antiocco Accame in 1901), and one aground (the Elginshire, 1902). People who are identified are: the Reverend Bennett (Frederick Augustus Bennett (later Bishop), with his first wife Hana Te Unuhi Mere Bennett, and young daughter, Rawinia Bennett (circa 1900); Abe Wells, photographed as an older man outside his cob house at Richmond (circa 1890s); and Isla Reid, photographed as a young girl, probably in the Dunedin area. Three scenes in cemeteries have clearly identified headstones, and include those for the Reverend Samuel Poole, Frank Churchill Simmons; and a group memorial for Charlotte McDonald, Annie McQuaid and Lizzie Crinrod, stewardesses who were drowned in the wreck of the SS Wairarapa, Great Barrier Island, 29th October 1894.
