Sites from the New Zealand War include Te Rangihaeata's stronghold (1846), the site of a chapel and the colonial cemetery at Pauatahanui, military trenches (one named McKillops), the barracks of the 65th regiment, the officer's quarters, the Boulton's Hotel of 1847, Troopers Hill, isolated Maori grave along Paekakariki Hill Road, the landing stage of the 58th and 65th regiments, Tandy's constablulary's post and the Waitaha Maori at Ration Point. Description: Chart of Tasman Sea and New Zealand (142E-170E, 27S-53S) showing the routes of air and naval patrols searching for the German raider Orion which had sunk the N.Z. Steamship Company steamer Turakina in the Tasman Sea. Aircraft were: flying boat Awarua from Auckland, 21st, 22nd and 25th August; flying boat Aotearoa from Auckland 21st August; DH 89s from Kerikeri. Naval patrols: HMS Archilles 21st-23rd August; Stewart Island patrol 23rd August; Wellington approaches patrol 25th August; Captn Mercer's patrol, north of Northland, 22nd & 23rd August; HMAS Perth, Sydney to mid-Tasman then Bass Strait. The patrols around Stewart Island and Wellington were carried out because signals had been detected from another German ship. Quantity: 1 manuscript map(s). Description: Map showing patrols undertaken to search for the German raiders that had sunk the Holmwood en route from the Chatham Islands to Christchurch on 29th November 1940, and the Rangitane 300 miles east of East Cape on the 27th November. The minesweeper Muritai sailed from Wellington on 29th November and returned on 2nd December. The flying boat Awarua made two flights from Auckland on the 29th and 30th November. Two land based aircraft from Christchurch flew a parallel track search 120 miles to the east of Lyttelton. Additional information from: The Royal New Zealand Navy by S.D. Waters, p. 140-141. Description: Drawn on a cadastral base map of the Lower Hutt industrial area, bounded by the Waiwhetu River, the Hutt River and the roads Bell, Park, Seaview and Gracefield, the annotations show sections sold (in red) and sections open for selection (in green). The sections are numbered with acreages, and the railway line runs through the area. Areas sold include the names Schweppes Ltd., ESW Paul, Wm Cable & Co., Wellington Concrete Pipe Coy., Ford Motor Co., Hume Pipe Coy., Vacuum Oil Coy., Texas Oil Coy., CH Morley, WA Cairns.
