Description: Album of black & white photographs, chiefly of geological formations, with some group photographs of members attending the 7th Pacific Science Congress in 1949. Several images by R L Oliver show an eruption on Mount Ruapehu, probably in 1945, with views of the tholoid in the crater, later views showing vents appearing, and finally the engulfment of the larger part of the tholoid by enlargement of the major vent. Other images include one of Tuna Bay delta in the Marlborough Sounds, shell-beds, group photographs of members of the geological section attending the Pacific Science Congress in 1949, and photographs of White island, including one aerial photograph.

The pier and Pleasure Centre are in the middle of the foreshore. The scheme was very likely done by Stanley Natusch on his return from United Kingdom in late 1920s or later.
