Description: Map showing the East Cape, Bay of Plenty, Tauranga, Northern Hawkes Bay and just south of Taupo. Shows Te Kooti's approximate route, and direction (arrows on line) and his engagements with the Hauhau people. Stops at certain pa are dated, some added text (before photocopy) e.g. "Final escape to King Country", "Visit to Takangamutu". Key stops included Opape, Tologa Bay, Turanga, Whakatane, Rotorua, Te Pourere, Puketapu. The linking areas for all these points was the Urewera country. Te Kooti was a Rongowhakaata leader, military leader, prophet, religious founder, pursued by colonial forces, eventually took refuge in the King Country where Te Kooti remained until pardoned in 1883. Description: Survey map showing subdivisions of Pt. 3c, Akura Block, Block IV Tiffen, situated 3 km north of Masterton, Southern Wairarapa, between Waiopoua and Waingawa rivers. Shows the first subdivisions into 3c 1, 3c 2, 3c 4. 3c is shown bounded by 3b to the left and 3a, d and b to the left and 5 1 below. Akura no.2 is to the right. The name Akura means 'entrance to a fortified pa'. Shows two roads, Akura Road and Kibblewhite Road. Part 3c specifies the location of the urupa (17) or cemetery on the roadside of Kibblewhite Road. Also specifies five subdivisions or lots of land on Pt 3c 4 (1100 each) belonging to members of the Karaitiana family: Waha o te Rangi Karaitiana, Ote ne Kuku Karaitiana, Arawhita Karaitiana and Te Ouai Karaitiana. Description: The papers consist of: Application form and land documents to support the application submitted by Robert Gillow Elliott; history of the family's ownership; Plan of Mangatahi; `The Mangatahi Settlement, particulars, terms and conditions', 1907 (photocopy of printed material). Original owner was Robert William Andrew Elliott who acquired 568 acres of the Mangatahi Block by ballot in 1907. On his death in 1933 the farm was run as an estate by his wife Ruby. After her death it was farmed in partnership by their children Joyce and Robert. After three years Robert leased his sister's share, until 2003 when he bought her out. In 2007 it was being run by Robert's son David. In 2007 the property was awarded the New Zealand Century Farm and Station award to mark over 100 years of continuous ownership by one family. Description: Copy of an 1870 cadastral map of land blocks within the Manawatū-Wairarapa Block, from the Tararua Ranges eastwards to the Puketoi Range and Castle Point Block. Blocks indicate name, number and acreage, and include Kaihinu, Pahiatua, Te Pukahu, Mongorongo, Eketāhuna, Ngatapu, Ihuraua, Manawatū, Mangahauo, Puketoi, Tautane, Makure. Two blocks include note 'not passed the [Native Land] Court' (Kaihanga, Mangahao no. 3; 7,000 acres and Puketoi no. 6; 3,200 acres). Includes annotations such as the addition of Mangakao no. 2 block in 1881. Includes names of rivers, streams. Note on map reads: 'Produced before the N[ative] L[and] Court at Masterton Wairarapa September 7th 1871'. [Signed] J Rogan'. Description: Diagrammatic map drawn on higher ground overlooking the scene where the HMS Buffalo navy ship was wrecked ('28th July 1840, at 10 am'). Map shows the site was wrecked, in a flat, sandy beach area, the thickly wooded hills behind it, the encampment of those who were in the wrecked ship, points on the beach where parts of the ship were washed ashore, and an area of flat marshy ground. Also depicted is the neighbouring pa site (maori village) of the Chief Teraroa, ('Teraroa's hippah'), the encampment of the part of the Buffalo's crew 'who were employed in the firest, preparing the cargo, Mercury River, part of Wiritianga's pa site, as well as Mr Brown's wharf-store and settlement ('Buffalo's store's were landed there'). Description: Shows area of land bounded by London, Ingestre streets and Victoria Avenue, Wanganui. Gives sections and section numbers (in most cases) in this area. Has an area marked as 'proposed new grounds for boy's college' with acreage. Next to this, is a block with a note: 'about 44 acres let on short grazing leases'. Another block has 'about 61 acreas let on grazing leases expiring 1909' written on it. One section near Victoria Avenue and Plymouth St is marked 'Mr Watson's house' and an adjacent section has 'garden' written on it. The Wanganui Aramoho railway is indicated. Other streets shown are Hatrick, Purnell, Wilson, Nixon, St Hill, Glasgow, Liverpool and Dublin. There is some pencil annotation on the map one of which is 'Mr W E Atkinson's school'. Shows the coastline and country inland of southern Hawkes Bay, between the Pōrangahau River and the Whangaehu River on the coast, bounded by the edge of the Tautane land block in the south and inland to the Mangaorapa Stream in the west. Numbered land blocks are shown along the Pōrangahau River from the coastline and inland, including the outlined Pōrangahau township. Shows acres in numerical format, some river names and place names and numerous Māori names. Broken and unbroken black lines indicate boundary lines of land blocks and the land area is marked with numerical and alphabetical figures in black, red and blue ink. A red line is marked on the map in a south to north direction, near the name Kohu.o.tu in the south and Waioheke in the north. Circles in red ink with numbers next to them are also shown.
