Description: Shows "Gulf of Shouraka" (Hauraki Gulf), Coromandel, Waiheke district, soundings, and some Maori and English placenames (sometimes mis-spelt). Shows Manukau and Waitemata harbours. River Thames refers to the Firth of Thames. Compiled largely from the work of Dumont D'Urville and crew of Astrolabe, 1827, during his exploration of New Zealand, and possibly others. Possibly taken from British Admiralty Chart of the same area published in 1836 - (from Brian Hooker). Drawn by Mudie for the Clint's Establishment, Sydney, ca. 1838 (see AT 13/13 8.7.91 (Hooker)). Description: Map from Waitemata Harbour to the Manukau Harbour showing all major Maori pa sites, villages and placenames This map has many similarities, although is not quite the same, to the frontspiece map from "Important judgements delivered in the Compensation Court and Native Land Court 1866-1879" Published under the direction of the Chief Judge, Native Land Court by Henry Brett, General Steam printer 1879, and to the map in the title by Alexander Mackay "Judgements Native Land Court and papers re native land tenure, etc" (see bound in map facing page 96, at the Alexander Turnbull Library NZ&P Collection Reference P 347.9 NZ Nat). Description: Cadastral map of Manukau harbour Auckland, depicting Native Land blocks, named settler sections (with acreage between 74 and 303 acres), a reserve (over 74 acres), swamp lots, a native village, a spring reserve, and identifying Nixon's 'hut'. Settler names include Grahame, six separate blocks totalling over 833 acres, Greenwood, four blocks totally over 468 acres, Nixon, four blocks of over 420 acres, Gitti's, 1000 acres, Fairburn, Bagston, and 184 acres bought 'for some person in England'. A vast area is titled 'unsettled claims'. A pencilled note reads 'Those lots not coloured are state unsold'. Quantity: 1 manuscript map(s). Description: Map from the Waitemata Harbour to Manukau Harbour showing all major Maori pa sites, villages and land. Shows battle sites and military engagements (unknown origin). Some English names of areas included for example 'One Tree Hill' and 'M[t] Albert, Owhairaka'. Several of the Maori pa sites include names associated with the pa, for example, Moeatoa pa of N. Titiata; Karaka te Aua and N. Tipare; Onehunga pa, Karangahape pa, Te Whau pa, Puketapapa pa and Onewa pa all of Uringutu and Ngaoho; Awhitu, pa of N. Titiata, N. Tamaoho and N. Timahuta; N. Tamaoho's other pa include Pehiakura, Te Toro and Ihumatao. This is a copy of map from the book: New Zealand Native Land Court.
