Description: Survey plan of the Auckland Albert Barracks, showing the boundaries of the barracks extending out to what later became Wellesley St, Kitchener St, Symonds St, Princes St and Alfred St. The barracks are enclosed by a stone wall (annotated note indicates part of the wall still in existence). Within the barracks is the armoury, a school, sergeant's quarters, military prison, Major Tisdall's house, the 'Dead House', large garden, the magazine, store and drill shed. Shows the Military Road, next to Government grounds, on what became Princes St. The 'Northern Club' is indicated on the corner of Waterloo Rd. Indicates building materials. Compiled by R.S. Description: Map drawn from A.B. Morrow's survey, January 11 and may 20 1908. Sec[tion] 6. Part of allotments 105 and 109, subs. of Auckland. Area 9a 3r 02.4p. Plan depicts the main works, proposed deviation to government railway siding, and 34 other existing or proposed smaller buildings on site, such as general store, magazine, powder room. Shows large paddock covered with rock and stone behind buildings, ammunition range used by Defence Department, proposed site for future extention. A stone wall five feet high surrounds the works. Site connects with Mountain Road and Normanby Road, with prison reserve located opposite the main works. Colour-coded index indicates position of buildings required for future extension of the loading department, permanent buildings, buildings belonging to the government and proposed extention of main buildings (note says now included in works). Note reads 'This plan made in duplicate. CAC. B.' Annotated inscription reads 'I approve of the plan (CAC 'B') as altered to date. R. Girling Butcher, 28.3.13.
