Description: A cadastral map of rural and suburban sections open for sale and selection of the area from Lake Horowhenua to Koputuroa Road, and bounded by the Kawiu and Makomako Roads. This cadastral map has numbered sections, some coloured, and include acreages and owners' names handwritten in some sections. The Wellington - Manawatu Railway is marked as are a school and a waterworks reserve. Streets and the Koputuroa Stream are named. The base maps are of sections in the Blocks I, II & VI, Waiopehu Survey District. Sections marked with red are large settlements open for sale or selection and are referred to in a key. Schedule of the suburban sections and rural lands in this district include the section number, acreage, value and rent. Terms and conditions of sale or selection of the Levin village settlement include the statement 'Drawn by F.J. Hales'. Includes a written description of rural land and the application date of 18 March 1889 at the Crown Lands Office, Wellington and includes J.W.A. Marchant's name. Description: Copy of a topographic map of the area in the Murimotu District from the Kaiiwi River and the Ohura River across to Lake Taupo, the Kaimanawa Ranges and the Rangitikei River. Cut road lines, proposed lines and native tracks are referred to in a reference key. Some tracks are routes proposed by Mr. Hogg and Mr. Booth, also an old war track described by natives is marked. Description: Hand-drawn map of the area from Taumarunui following the main trunk line and the Ongarue River northwards to Mangeokewa River to the Waikato River and Waihaha River to Waituhi. Creeks, streams and rivers are named, some marked in blue. Watersheds of the Mokau, Wanganui and Waikato Rivers are prominently marked as are land blocks and mountain peaks which include height in feet. Lines of the Taringamotu Company's Tram and the Mangapehe Tram are drawn and the map includes many references to tram formations. Directions with mileages are given to Lake Taupo. Description: Copy of an 1870 cadastral map of land blocks within the Manawatū-Wairarapa Block, from the Tararua Ranges eastwards to the Puketoi Range and Castle Point Block. Blocks indicate name, number and acreage, and include Kaihinu, Pahiatua, Te Pukahu, Mongorongo, Eketāhuna, Ngatapu, Ihuraua, Manawatū, Mangahauo, Puketoi, Tautane, Makure. Two blocks include note 'not passed the [Native Land] Court' (Kaihanga, Mangahao no. 3; 7,000 acres and Puketoi no. 6; 3,200 acres). Includes annotations such as the addition of Mangakao no. 2 block in 1881. Includes names of rivers, streams. Description: Manawatu Catchment Board proposed flood control scheme for the lower Manawatu River, 1945. The plan outlines stage one of a five year plan of flood protection for the river from Whirokino to Ashurst. Shows flood protection river cuts, stopbanks, outfall drains, raised banks ponding areas, an alternative cut, as well as a 200 ft wide channel through Moutoa. Also shows a diagram above the map entitled 'Longitudinal profile along cut' that depicts the 1902 flood level, stopbank heights, low level bank heights, ground levels along the cut and the mean contruction level on the bottom of the cut. Description: Drawn on a base map of Owahanga Station, the annotations depict pā sites, (including terraced pā), middens (deposits of shells or animal bones indicating human settlement) and pits along the Mataikona River. Several comments are written on the map such as the bulldozing of sites, pit size, locality of farm buildings. Drawn by P.J.P. Base map: 'Owahanga Station' (ms map?, 1964). Surveyed by R G Lockie. This map names paddocks, buildings, and describes land use. Gives topographical information. Includes enlargement of the layout of the station's farm buildings such as wool shed, cook house, and shearing quarters. Map consists of two sheets glued together. Description: Topographic map of the southern half of the North Island, with especial emphasis on the Wairarapa valley, showing natural features and stands of timber; the Maori names for some of these features are given, together with names and locations of some pa . Includes the surveyors' route which began on 1st. June, ca. 1848, from a site along the Manawatu River to the Ruamahanga River, Lake Wairarapa, ending at the Hutt River on 20 June. Description: Shows area of land bounded by London, Ingestre streets and Victoria Avenue, Wanganui. Gives sections and section numbers (in most cases) in this area. Has an area marked as 'proposed new grounds for boy's college' with acreage. Next to this, is a block with a note: 'about 44 acres let on short grazing leases'. Another block has 'about 61 acreas let on grazing leases expiring 1909' written on it. One section near Victoria Avenue and Plymouth St is marked 'Mr Watson's house' and an adjacent section has 'garden' written on it. The Wanganui Aramoho railway is indicated. Other streets shown are Hatrick, Purnell, Wilson, Nixon, St Hill, Glasgow, Liverpool and Dublin. There is some pencil annotation on the map one of which is 'Mr W E Atkinson's school'. Description: A base map of Block V, Westmere S.D. has been used to detail the town section 103 to be developed by John T. Williams. The plan for the section includes a cottage, stable and two sheds. The orchard, garden, passage and yard are named, include measurements in feet and inches, and notes about a 'crooked delanidated picket fence' and 'buried in dense growth of trees and shrubs'. The adjacent section No. 102, includes the names W.J. Vowles and J.A.S. McDonald, owner and occupier, while section No. 104 has the names Mrs. M.V. Soulby, owner, and Williams, occupier. The section to the rear has the name Mrs. Ellen Cullinane, owner and occupier. A note written on bottom right of map gives information about survey posts, pegs and no excess claimed for this section. Description: The index map, Sheet N, of the scheme for the Lower Manawatu area begins at the mouth of the Manawatu River, reaching as far as Ashhurst and the Kiwitea Stream. The scheme for the Oroua River is also included from the junction near Rangiotu to the vicinity of Kiwitea Stream. Notes about stopbanks, boundaries, railways and classes of valuation are referred to in a key. An extensive valuation table, entitled Rate Yield of Zone Districts includes information about twelve disticts, their areas and capital value of classes. The eight sheets, numbered 1a to 8a, are enlargements of Sheet N showing rural properties adjacent to the rivers, which are divided into classes according to their valuation and referred to in a key. Each property is numbered and includes the owner's name and acreage. Notes on each sheet state that the maps were compiled from Valuation Rolls 3/12 to 3/24 and 1399, 1402, 1425, 1428, 1432, 1441-2, 1476, 1478. Includes named streets, State Highways 1, 12, 30 and 97 as well as the Main Trunk Railway Line and deviation near Longburn. Three amended maps on Sheet 9a are of parts of Sheets 1a. 2a. 5a. Manawatu Catchment Board Plan no. 1/80 has been crossed out on all maps and 514 inserted before copying Originals signed by P.G. Evans, Chief Engineer, 7/12/51, 16/12/52, 12/12/54.
