Description: Survey map showing subdivisions of Pt. 3c, Akura Block, Block IV Tiffen, situated 3 km north of Masterton, Southern Wairarapa, between Waiopoua and Waingawa rivers. Shows the first subdivisions into 3c 1, 3c 2, 3c 4. 3c is shown bounded by 3b to the left and 3a, d and b to the left and 5 1 below. Akura no.2 is to the right. The name Akura means 'entrance to a fortified pa'. Shows two roads, Akura Road and Kibblewhite Road. Part 3c specifies the location of the urupa (17) or cemetery on the roadside of Kibblewhite Road. Also specifies five subdivisions or lots of land on Pt 3c 4 (1100 each) belonging to members of the Karaitiana family: Waha o te Rangi Karaitiana, Ote ne Kuku Karaitiana, Arawhita Karaitiana and Te Ouai Karaitiana. Shows some measurement 'by old surveyors'. Inset of part of the Kibblewhite Rd's centre showing cement blocks, probably added at a later date. Under title is written "M.O. Ckd. H.R." Description: Map covers the Province of Taranaki and the top of the Wellington Province (shows the Tangarakau River, Makau River, Whanganui River) and up to Lake Taupo. Many rivers are named as well as many Maori placenames/?settlements. The map identifies the large landholdings of the settlers, eg Morrin and others, 100,000 acres, Morrin and others 46,000 acres, Birch's Run, Russell and Howard 40,000 acres, as well as "Okuhukura or Kopango 30,000 acres Walter and McDonnell". Shows "surveyed land 3,500 acres" and large tracks of "open country - not taken up". Shows large sections of "Totora Bush", "Kaimanawa", and "Te Kooti's Pa" next to the Waipara River near Mount Tongariro. Description: Cadastral plan showing Otahuao and Wangaehu blocks, Masterton County, Southern Wairarapa. Shows Otahuao as 2900 acres, Wangaehu as 430 acres. Shows upper Tauheru block, Maungaraki block, the Ti-ori-ori Plain, the Wangaehu River, the Ruamahanga River and the Tauheru River. Sites flooded bush and Collins homestead and several Native Land blocks. Description: Cadastral map of the property of J. Valentine Smith, known as Lansdowne Estate, at Masterton. The boundary of his farm lies between the roads to the Forty Mile Bush also Taueru and East Coast, the Heipipi Creek and the Ruamahanga River. The property is divided into numbered lots with acreages and some boundary measurements. A private road leads to the site of a house, outside of which is the site of a hospital and the residence of F. G. Moore. An orchard, cowshed, barn and stable are marked, as are wood and wire fences and a gate. A native reserve and educational reserve are marked. Waipoua River is named. Queen Street, Masterton leads to the corner of J. Valentine Smith's property. The area of Masterton includes the railway station and Lincoln Road, Villa, Cole and Chapel streets. The Institute, Town Hall, Post Office, Club, Club Hotel and an English Church are marked, as are bridges and a sawmill. Chapel Street is ten chains wide. Cadastral sections are on Cole Street and between Victoria and Albert Streets. Annotations to this map include the boundary of J. Valentine Smith's farm and ten sections between Victoria and Albert Streets, also five sections on Cole Street. Note on base map: Messrs. J.H. Bethune & Co. have been favoured with instructions from the Proprietor, J. Description: Cadastral map showing the boundaries of the Port Nicholson Purchase, or the 'first purchase of the New Zealand Company, as laid down by Mr Thomas Fitzgerald, assistant surveyor attached to the Land Claims Commissioner and by the officers of the New Zealand Company's surveying staff'. Land involved includes over one hundred 100-acre land blocks in the Wellington Region, namely in Upper and Lower Hutt, Lowry Bay, the Miramar Peninsular, coastal land on the eastern coast of the harbour, Orongo rongo, Petone, Pakuratahi, the Wainuiomata Valley, Tawa, and some blocks of land westwards of Tawa, Johnsonville, and Karori. The map names the following districts: Terawhiti, Kinapora, Makara, Kaiwara, Ohiro, Horokiwi Road, Karori, Town, Ohariu, Harbour, Evan's Bay, Lowry Bay, Upper Hutt, Lower Hutt. Valley of Wainuiomata, Pakuratahi, Petone, and each district is divided into numbered blocks. Several sites have Maori or English names. 'Pa Rangi rau' is indicated near Barings Head. Some topographical detail is shown. Miramar is named 'Watt's Peninsular' and includes a large lake called 'Burnham Water'. The map does not include the central business district of Wellington. Before copying, map was signed 'No 12, Case 374, Plan of the Port Nicholson District referred to in my final report [signed] Will[ia]m Spain, Commissioner'. The original map colour coding referred to government, Native (Maori) and public (town) belt reserves, not visible on this black and white copy. Description: Topographic and cadastral map of the area from Cape Palliser, Palliser Bay, the Rimutaka and Tararua Mountains, the boundary between Hawke's Bay and Wellington Regions to the coast near the Akiteo River, and the east coast including Castlepoint. Blocks are named mainly with Maori names, some include acreages, and boundaries are prominently marked. Blocks of native land and native reserves are marked. Pencil markings in Manawatu Block are not referred to in a key. The towns of Featherston, Greytown, Carterton and Masterton are named. Rivers, roads and the telegraph are marked. Description: Cadastral map, with topographical information, of the Taupo District, showing numbered Maori land blocks. Includes the area from Te Poua Kani, eastwards to Te Kowhatu Whakairo, southwards to the Mohaka River and Mangatainoko, and westwards to Te Kohatu. Land blocks sited include Kaimanawa, Tapapa, Te Matai, Wharetoto, Waikare Mohaka, Runanga, Pohokura, Tauhara, Tauranga, Pukahunui, Kaingaroa, Paeroa, Whakamaru, Maraetai and Okahukura.
