Description: The papers consist of: Application form submitted by A W Glassford; copy of `The Gordon Glassfords, 1864-2003' compiled by Gordon Glassford Leask and revised for March 2003 reunion with additional information by Wallace Duncan Leask; `Lines from Central :The Waldrons of Blacks, central Otago and their descendants' by Robyn Newman [Auckland, 2003]; Memories... by Wallace D Leask, ca 2007; land documents (photocopied or scanned). See MS-Papers-9389-31 for published summary & photographs Original owners were brothers James Glassford Gordon-Glassford and Henry (Harry) Gordon-Glassford of Scotland who purchased 80,000 acres in the Lauder Survey District, Central Otago, 12 km from Omakau. In 1864 the brothers took over the lease of Run 223 from Messrs Webster and Thomson and operated under the name of Glassfords Bros. About this time the run became known as Matakanui Station. In 2008 the property was awarded the New Zealand Century Farm and Station award to mark over 100 years of continuous ownership by one family. Quantity: 1 folder(s).
