Description: Reminiscences written in 1910 of Mieville's life in New Zealand, mainly on Glenham Station in the Mataura Valley, Southland, and in Dunedin; transcribed and indexed by Marsha Donaldson. Includes shipboard accounts of the voyage to Port Chalmers on the 'Dominion' in 1851 with the Richardson family, a voyage home to England via Melbourne on the 'Thomas and Henry', and 'Royal Charter' in 1857, and the return voyage to Port Chalmers in 1858 on 'Agra'. He includes some of his wife's diary entries in his reminiscences. His first year in New Zealand was spent at Otepopo on the sheep station owned by Charles Suisted. Description: Comprises stories (or chapters) of Hudson's reminiscences of exploring the outdoors in New Zealand, particulary the South Island during the 20th Century. Most chapters are titled, for example `This green land' and `The Backroads of Otago'. Some topics covered in these stories are trout fishing, high country roads, southern lakes, shepherding, Stewart Island, New Zealand flora and fauna. Other stories include reminiscences of growing up in Kawhia during World War One, a narrative of Hudson's mother who was a district nurse in the Kawhia region; life as a roadman in the 1930s.
