Description: The papers consist of: Application form submitted by Robyn Vicki Lawrence on behalf of her brother Murray Tapper; History of the Tappers of Okauia compiled by Vicki Lawrence, 2009; Early history of Okauia, compiled by Mrs H Baxindine Snr, Mrs Annie Marsh, George Harrison, jack jones, Arthur Garland, Mar 1982 Original owner was Caleb Robinson Tapper who leased the land in 1908. It was acquired by Jack Victor Tapper in 1919. In 2008 it was owned by his grandson Murray Wayne Tapper and wife Gillian. In June 2008 the Tapper farm was sold to Murray & Nikki Hawkings ending over 100 years of continuous ownership by one family. Description: The story of the Brooke family from Pyrford, Surrey and their immigration to New Zealand in 1910. The two sons, Jack and Cecil, began their farming life in the Kaikoura district as farm cadets. For seven years they farmed at Kaikoura from where the boys went to war and served with the New Zealand Mounted Rifles and later in the 1st New Zealand Machine Gun Squadron. After Cecil Brooke's leave he bought a small dairy farm at Ruakura in 1920 and 5 years later married Dorothy Hutchinson. They farmed at Ruakura for 34 years, and purchased a further 200 acres of peat swamp to break in.
