Description: A head-and-shoulders portrait of a young soldier, drawn during the Great War. He is dressed in his uniform and lemon-squeezer hat. He gazes off to his right, his expression appearing haunted The pastel is accompanied by a commentary in French (A-460-019-1) about the subject by Burnand's nephew Robert, a military historian and Captain in the French army, who was wounded in 1914 This portrait is was one of 104 produced by Burnand between 1917 and 1920, and published in 'Les allies dans la Guerre des Nations', in 1922. Description: Programme front cover includes the crest of the Returned Soldiers' Association, quotations from poems by Robert Burns and Laurence Housman, and an illustration of a soldier lying on his front in a field. The back cover remembers "New Zealand's heroic troops who took part in the Landing on Turkish soil at Gallipoli on the 25th of April 1915" and gives a quotation from a speech by the Dean of Westminster on the Anzacs. Description: Flyer advertises a showing of a film authorised by Sir James Allen, Minister of Defence, involving 5000 New Zealand soldiers, and based on Barrie Marschel's poem "The Kid from Timaru", about a soldier with the surname Kidd. Barrie Marschel recited his poem "as the films unfold". The flyer states that the film had already had seasons in Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin. The front of the flyer shows a reproduction of a advertisement for the movie with an oval portrait of Barrie Marschel in a straw hat. The border of the flyer shows a design based on laurels. The verso reproduces the poem "The kid from Timaru".
