Damaged bridge over the Waipa River, 1917.

Description: Damaged bridge over the Waipa River, at Ngaruawahia. Photograph taken by Albert Percy Godber in 1917. Dated from other images in the Godber album at Pa1-q-102. There are photographs of people and horses being transported across the Waipa River on a punt, pulled by winch, because the bridge was unable to be crossed having collapsed in 1916. Source of descriptive information, client wrote to say bridge collapsed 20 December 1916 and temporary ferry service used for over ten months after. Inscriptions: Album page - Damaged bridge over Waipa River. Ngaruawahia. The bridge collapsed on 20 December 1916, for over 10 months afterwards a temporary ferry service carried traffic from one bank to the other.
