Description: Postcards of Wellington, Auckland, and Dunedin. These include views of the cities, their notable buildings, suburbs, harbours, and beaches. Of the three cities Wellington is most richly represented with, in many cases, good clear photographs of streets and buildings. The Wellington cable car is well represented and trams are conspicuous features throughout the collection. There are single photographs of Invercargill and Oamaru. Several postcards in the Dunedin section are views of the Waipori Gorge. One photograph shows the Salvation Army Institute building at Featherston Military Camp. Description: View of the Kelburn cable car from the Clifton Terrace stop. The view looks down towards the tunnel which leads under The Terrace to the city terminal. A cable car is on the track, and the view includes houses and fenced off access from The Terrace. Photographed by an Evening Post staff photographer on the 30th of October 1936. Access from The Terrace to the Clifton Terrace stop had been closed off by the Kelburn Tramway Company in about 1931. This photograph was taken when the access was in the process of being rienstated as a result of successful negociations on the matter between the City Council and the Kelburn Tramway Company.
