Description: Photographs of the following: a set of seven photographs by Collis and annotated by F P Corkill, land agent, re landholding around the Waiwhakaiho River; scenic views such as waterfalls, lakes, and the Pink and White Terraces; bridges with annotations re height etc; sixteen numbered photographs mounted two to a card of scenic views in the Taranaki Region, Rotorua and the far north (including ones of Taumaha Gorge, Taranaki and Lake Ora - location unidentified); a set of seven photographs of the Waipu Caves including Lot's wife, the anvil and the sugar loaf in Morrison's Cave; a clipping of St Paul's Cupola and a photograph of Kauri Gully, Northcote with annotations on resolutions passed re the establishment of reservations; a panorama in two photographs of Flagstaff Hill, Dunedin with annotations re a potential reserve; and two of a tramping party of three men and five boys resting at a waterfall. Description: Aerial photograph, produced by NZ Aerial Mapping Ltd., Ref. No. A/S 2218, Flown 27.3.69, of L.W. Tonkin's farm in the Matakohe area, NE of Kaipara Harbour, used as a base map to which the farm and paddock boundaries have been outlined in red and detailed in a key. Hand-written notes in the margin give details of neighbouring houses with name references. Features include a trig point with height in feet, cabbage trees (location of), height in feet (of a hill), silo, to Matakohe, Ruatuna. A.P.B.W. believed to be the cartographer. Hand-written notes included in the margins are as follows: "Mainly hill country (sold 1947 to Crown for rehab) leading to 'The Swamp' on Ruawai Flats." "Matakohe Beet Farms, Ltd. Description: Photographs of Kamo (Whangarei), Rodney County and Coromandel, taken, probably in the 1900s, by Daniel P Parker of Coromandel. Includes views of the construction on a timber dam (probably in Coromandel), Coromandel Public Hospital, Kennedy Bay (Coromandel), a stream crossing between Opitonui and Coromandel, bush camps in the Coromadel district and a traffic bridge in Rodney County. Daniel P Parker is recorded in the Wise's Post Office directories as an engineer in Coromandel from 1902 to 1930. Between 1906 and 1911 he is also recorded as a photographer. Description: Depicts the ceremony of choosing the first National flag of New Zealand by the Maori chiefs from one of three designs, witnessed by a grathering of missionaries, settlers, commanders of 10 British and 3 American ships. The ceremony took place at the house of the British Resident, Mr James Busby at Waitangi in the Bay of Islands on the 20th March 1834 with a salute of 21 guns from HMS Alligator (in distance). The flag that was chosen is being pointed at by a chief holding up a greenstone mere. The design chosen was the red cross of St George on a white background and a small red St George's cross in the top left hand corner on a blue background. In each of these quarters is an 8 pointed star. An enlargement of the flag is in the bottom lefthand corner of the postcard. The flag was called the Flag of United Tribes of New Zealand (1834-1840) The flag was adopted by Shaw Savill & Company as its house flag in 1858 it having ceased to be the national flag when New Zealand came under the British sovereignty Quantity: 1 colour photo-mechanical print(s). Description: Remains of the house built in Paihia in 1932 for Bishop William Williams taken circa 1910-1913 by Frederick George Radcliffe. Source of descriptive information - First part of the record title, and historical note, from Library client. Relationship complexity - Other later images of the ruins are at PA1-0-141-90 and PAColl-7080-80. This was a stone and plaster house and, after Williams left to go to Te Waimate, was occupied by Charles Baker, before being used to accommodate the Church Mission printing press. William Colenso occupied it with the press 1839-1842 then John Telford 1843-1845. It is a registered historic site (Register 403).
