Description: Various photographs relating to different places and events. One seems to be a trip to Sydney. There are views of a ship's deck and coastal cliffs. Also several views of the almost completed Sydney Harbour Bridge from what is probably a ferry. Other photographs are from Christchurch, Wellington and harbour, and of Auckland. There are a number of Auckland buildings; the Greenhouse in the Domain, the University, and the Museum. There is a sequence of views of a thermal area and three photographs of Maori. Description: Publicity photographs taken by various unidentified photographers for New Zealand Railways. The only identifying information is a few pencilled notes giving some locations, but there are no captions identifying people. There is a large sequence showing events surrounding the first celebrations marking the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi on 6th February 1934 attended by Lord Bledisloe. He had purchased the site, and donated money for the Treaty House renovations in 1932. The celebrations brought 10,000 Maori to Waitangi. The images show huge crowds, haka parties, various iwi performing, and parties of dignitaries including Lord and Lady Bledisloe, Joseph Gordon Coates and George William Forbes. Other scenes with Lord Bledisloe show him visiting the Waitaki Hydroelectric power station. Views of New Zealand include Government Tourist Bureau accomodation houses including those at Waitomo and the Hermitage (Mt. Cook); accomodation houses at Helensville and Parakai with interior and exterior views, and showing activities available (spa pools, games such as croquet, golf, and bowls); anglers standing by swordfish they have caught; skiing and ski lessons; and waterfalls. Industrial and agricultural views show dairy cows, citrus groves, the Kiwi Bacon Factory, printing presses, and race courses. Description: A detailed plan of the Provincial Court, with the North Island at the right, the South Island and Stewart Island at the left, and Cook Strait in the middle, crossed by a bridge. There were stands for provinces and also for the New Zealand Tourist and Railways departments. Description: Mounted images with annotations from Albert Armitage Salmon's 1936-1937 trip to New Zealand. The images follow the route of Salmon and his companions' travels tramping and travelling from Franz Josepf Glacier to various locations in the North Island. Photographs taken by Salmon. - The photographs show aerial images of the South Island including Franz Josef Glacier and snowfields, Fox Glacier and nearby mountains and bush, and a series of images of Bert Salmon and Mary Hansen on the ice at Fox Glacier. Also includes views of Fox River, the Pancake Rocks at Punakaiki, Buller Gorge, a suspension bridge over the Buller River, and farmland near Nelson. - Photographs of the North Island show Chateau Tongariro and Mount Ruapehu in Tongariro National Park, views of Mount Ngauruhoe, including a copy of a photograph of the eruption of Ngauruhoe on 9 December 1934, and group portraits of Irene Booth, Mary Hansen, Eric Keehn, and Reg Booth playing in the snow on Mount Ruapehu. - Other images show views of the Waikato River at Huka Falls, the Aratiatia Rapids, and geothermal activity around Taupo and Rotorua. Description: The images record three separate events: 1. Leslie Verry's trip to Europe in 1939 as the world prepared for war. 2. The New Zealand Centennial celebrations at Waitangi in 1940. 3. A climbing trip to Tongariro National Park, easter, 1940. In relation to the Second World War, this album is interesting in that it has several photographs showing mobilisation in Holland, and troops on the move in Utrecht and the Hague following the Italian invasion of Albania in April 1939. It also has photographs taken in Kassa (Hungary) after the partition of Czechoslovakia. Description: Photographs of unidentified snow covered landscapes; skiers and trampers in action or in groups, some outside tramping huts, or in amongst tent camps; photographs of Hamish Armstrong's crashed De Havilland Gipsy Moth plane taken on the 4th and 5th of August 1935 Hamish Armstrong set off to fly from Akitio to Hastings on 21 July 1935. He crashed in the Ruahine Ranges in an area known today as Armstrong Saddle. On Sunday 4th of August 1935 the wreckage of the plane was found by a group of trampers looking for a skiing ground. Hamish Armstrong's body was never found. Quantity: 60 b&w original photographic print(s).
