A researcher noted in 2024 that this image may have undergone burning during the photographic process, where parts of photographic paper are exposed to more light to darken the areas, to make it look like there is an ash plume erupting from the volcano. This manipulation cannot be verified from this negative as it is a copy negative from a print. The Library does not hold the original negative or prints.
