Description: Mounted images with annotations from Albert Armitage Salmon's 1936-1937 trip to New Zealand. The images follow the route of Salmon and his companions' travels tramping and travelling from Franz Josepf Glacier to various locations in the North Island. Photographs taken by Salmon. - The photographs show aerial images of the South Island including Franz Josef Glacier and snowfields, Fox Glacier and nearby mountains and bush, and a series of images of Bert Salmon and Mary Hansen on the ice at Fox Glacier. Also includes views of Fox River, the Pancake Rocks at Punakaiki, Buller Gorge, a suspension bridge over the Buller River, and farmland near Nelson. - Photographs of the North Island show Chateau Tongariro and Mount Ruapehu in Tongariro National Park, views of Mount Ngauruhoe, including a copy of a photograph of the eruption of Ngauruhoe on 9 December 1934, and group portraits of Irene Booth, Mary Hansen, Eric Keehn, and Reg Booth playing in the snow on Mount Ruapehu. - Other images show views of the Waikato River at Huka Falls, the Aratiatia Rapids, and geothermal activity around Taupo and Rotorua. Images show geysers and mud pools at Wairakei, the Lady Knox Geyser erupting at Waiotapu, the exterior of the Rotorua bathhouse, and views of Whakarewarewa, including hot pools, thermal springs, boiling mud, and steam. Description: Colour slide photographs taken by John Reinder Fijn of a Maori community [Whakarewarewa?] in Rotorua, circa 1960s. Includes a number of portraits of a young girl and a young boy at the wharenui. The boy is holding toitoi frond. Also shows young men reading a newspaper and sitting on a step, a carved figure, and washing drying on lines. Thermal activity is visible in the background of some images. Images of a girl playing an accordian and a woman with a fishing net on the banks of a river [eeling?] are possibly at a different location [Waipiro Bay?]. Description: Colour slide photographs taken by John Reinder Fijn at Whakarewarewa thermal area, circa 1960s. Includes images of an unidentified guide wearing a headscarf and carrying a basket, four young women doing a poi dance in front of thermal area, a portrait of a kapa haka performer in front of carved wharenui at the Whakarewarewa Model Pa, and a boy standing in front of thermal area with Whakarewarewa Village, including Church of the Immaculate Conception, in the background. Three slides are mounted in metal and glass slide holders constructed by Fijn.
