Description: Photo of the school inspector, launch owner and eight children in a launch moored at the Mangatoi School jetty on the Mokau River. The school boat is also tied up at the river bank. Photographed in 1928 by Robert E Wells. Inscriptions: Verso - top centre - A Red-letter Day for Backblocks Children.; Verso - centre - On the upper reaches of the Mokau River, where visitors are few, the annual visit of the School Inspector is an event eagerly looked forward to, by the children, who are here shown welcoming him upon his arrival by launch.
