Description: Shows group of wooden buildings in the foreground, possibly barracks, with people talking. A barrel, a trunk, a dog and a gun carriage are amongst the main group of people. Two men on horseback on a path to the left may be soldiers. There are horses in a corral in front of a large shed to the left. A path with steps leads past a telegraph pole to buildings on a rise in the middle ground, one building possibly being a church. Mount Egmont in the background. The constructions and people are probably associated with the raid on nearby Parihaka in November 1881.
