Description: Shows a group of fisherman on a wharf where some small boats are tied up. One man sits with a black and white dog at his feet, and talks to a man standing beside two barrels full of fish. One of the barrels has the initials JM in large letters on the side. Some shallow baskets of fish with one or two fish in them, lie in the foreground. Further away on the right, a man hoses down the wharf, in front of a flagstaff with a blue and red flag flying. A red buoy floats in the left foreground, and there are some abandoned fishing rods on the wharf at the left. Some buildings at Port Chalmers are visible in the left background. Description: Photographs relating to Herbert Spackman and his family and relatives, chiefly taken by him. Places include views of Wellington and bays, Eketahuna and the Wanganui district. Very few of the people shown are fully identified but are likely to be Harry Spackman’s: mother (Eliza Spackman, nee Hawkings), father (Henry Spackman), brother, mother-in-law (Mrs Coxall, mother of Harry’s first wife Amy), and father-in-law (Mr Parnell, father of Fanny Parnell, Harry's second wife). Several houses are shown, including: ‘Rangiuru’, located at 63 Hutt Road, Petone, Wellington; House of Eketahuna farmer David S Lowe; House of David S Lowe’s brother Henry (‘Harry’) Goold Spackman in Wanganui, both interior and exterior, ‘Ben Venuto’ situated at 59 Rintoul Street and house of Henry (‘Harry’) Goold Spackman in Wellington, both interior and exterior views. Herbert Spackman's nephew Roy Spackman (Clement Roy) attended Wanganui Collegiate School, and there are several views of the chapel (interior and exterior) and the music room. Colombo is shown in the first part of the album, and includes street scenes, the "Old Colombo Lighthouse", the Galle Face Hotel(?), views of outrigger fishing canoes, carts drawn by humped cattle, "padda" boats on a canal, and a group of young Sri Lankan women. The second part of the album contains views of New Zealand, chiefly in the thermal regions with views of Ohinemutu, Hamurana Springs, the Poutuhu Geyser, Waimangu Geyser, the "Fairy bath" at Okoroire and the "Okoroire Natural Bridge Rapids".
