Description: This is a larger and more finished version of the image at C-003-001. Nine-part panorama forming a complete circle, of the view from the parsonage attached to St James Anglican Church Lower Hutt. Shows the parsonage with surrounding houses and farms, cleared land, roads, bush and hills in the background. There are men on horseback, a light horse-drawn trap, men ploughing with a horse-drawn plough, and a wagon drawn by two horses. Inscriptions: Recto - beneath image - (At lower edge of each panel): TBH; Album page - centre - (On verso of one of the panels): [Title] Quantity: 1 watercolour(s). Description: An extensive view at Waimate North, with a windmill, the mission station and the church on the horizon. Bracken in the foreground and a rutted dirt road running away into the distance. Fenced paddocks to the right and three small people walking away on the road to the left. Several dead trees in the foreground. Compare a very similar work by Cyprian Bridge at A-079-035 The work appears to have been part of a sketchbook at an earlier stage, with signs of having been bound on its left side. Probably removed by the Library from album E-320-f, which contained 16 sketches on acquisition by Alexander Turnbull in 1893. Identification: the reference to 'Poka Noi' is to a volcanic cone, Puke Nui, or Pukenui, now known as Te Ahuahu, just visible in the centre background Other Titles - Waimate North, Pukenui, Puke Nui, Tamati Waka Nene Inscriptions: Recto - bottom left - title in ink in the hand of the artist Quantity: 1 drawing(s). Description: View of Horokiwi. Hills can be seen in the background. The foreground is divided by what is probably Horokiwi Road with a man standing on the verge. A post and rail fence rignt foreground, and hedge fences on both sides of the road. A macrocapa shelter belt hides all but the chimney and a portion of the roof of a house. Description: Shows a road in the foreground, passing by the waterwheel and flour mill buildings set slightly below road level. There is a weeping willow at the right. The terrain is rolling hill country. Note on back: Built by Charles Lagden Haylock & his sons who landed in Akaroa in 1850 by the Barque "Monarch". See also the oil painting at G-456, showing the mill from the opposite side. Notes with this picture indicate that C L Haylock lived in a cottage on the site. Quantity: 1 watercolour(s).
