Original owners of Broadlands at Wilsons Crossing were John and James McCallum who acquired 504 acres in 1904. The land was purchased by their father Duncan in his sons' names from Florence Rose Ellis and George Compton Tothill. In 1906 Duncan McCallum built a homestead and associated outbuildings, sold his Waianiwa property and moved with his wife to Broadlands. The farm traded as D McCallum & Sons. In 1919, after James returned from the First World War, the property was divided in half. John took the northern half, and James the southern half, along with the homestead and outbuildings. In 1960 James transferred his property to his son James Neil McCallum. J N McCallum entered a trading partnership with his son Lloyd James in 1980 and in the same year L J McCallum purchased a neighbouring property of 66 acres. In 1900 Lloyd and his wife Kathleen purchased the farm known as `Broadlands' from his parents. In 2005 the property was awarded the New Zealand Century Farm and Station award to mark over 100 years of continuous ownership by one family. Lloyd James McCallum was the grandson of James McCallum.
