The Sub-Antarctic Island views are all of native flora and fauna of the different islands, listed on the images as mollymawks, albatrosses, sea lions, crested penguins and erect-crested penguins On page 32 there is a view of the SS Knight Templar leaving Lyttelton on February 17, 1900, taking about 260 soldiers and 300 horses of the 3rd Contingent "the New Zealand Roughriders" to Durban, en route to fight in the South African War. Description: Album of scenic views of Tasmania, Sydney and wider New South Wales, and of New Zealand, both North and South Islands. Views of lighthouses include Derwent Lighthouse (Tasmania), Macquarie Lighthouse (South Head, Sydney), and Farewell Spit Lighthouse (Tasman Region, New Zealand). The New Zealand photographs are nearly all taken by Josiah Martin, and include one that is a collage of scenes he photographed, and one of Maori weapons, with captions to say they were deposited [in Auckland Museum] by Captain Gilbert Mair. Description: Sketch drawings with colour notes, showing early Christchurch houses and churches, and the Provincial Council Chambers, St Michael and All Angels Church, a windmill, flax and cabbage trees along the river bank, a bridge, and the Port Hills in the distance. Artist may be Rev James West Stack (see similar style of image at A-210-016; Government Buildings Canterbury. [1860?]) One of the images C-081-007 has the name Thompson on the verso. One drawing shows three shops including Albion House [milliner] and Papp[rill, tailor]. These two are listed in Canterbury almanacs for 1860-early 1870s. Description: Family photographs of the William Hughes Field family, their home in Everton Terrace, Wellington, with views of Wellington and the harbour taken from various streets nearby. One group of images taken from Kelburn Park in February 1897 show the ship (with an escorting flotilla) in which Lord Glasgow was leaving New Zealand after his term as Governor of New Zealand. A few images show scenes in Christchurch. The yacht `Sunbeam' (privately owned by Lord Brassey) is shown in Wellington Harbour in a number of views. Several photographs shows areas on the outskirts of Wellington. Views fom Pukerua of the hills to the north and Kapiti Island; Otaihanga (with one of a Maori family at their home); Upper Hutt, showing Mr and Mrs Sarjeant's backyard, Mr and Mrs Barber's orchard, and two views of a farm owned by Mr [Martin?]; the coast at Island Bay, and fishermen and their huts at Island Bay. New Zealand scenes are mostly taken by Daniel Mundy, and include many landscapes; a few taken in Christchurch City; several show the Raukapuka Station and Raukapuka Bush, near Geraldine; several taken in and around the Thames Goldfields, at Moanatiri Valley and Te Puhi Flat, with one view of the workings of `The Wild Missouri.
