Description: The scene is outside the rugby grounds where Manawatu were playing the Springboks. Police are searching and frisking spectators on entry to the grounds to prevent protestors from disrupting the game. One policeman is restraining a spectator carrying a placard and telling the Sergeant that the spectator is determined to enter the grounds free-of-charge. Refers to the game played in the Waikato at which protestors against the Springbok tour disrupted the game by running onto the pitch, causing the game to be called off. Description: Album containing 1928 souvenir booklet celebrating New Zealand's first Commerce Train, which travelled through Auckland Province between 26th October 1928 and 4th November 1928. Souvenir number of the Commerce Train News, published by New Zealand Railways. Bound in with the book are photographs taken by an unidentified passenger on the trip. There are photographs in the booklet, which include several portraits of men on the trip, photographs of farmland, dairy factories, cement works, Arapuni Hydroelectric works showing the dam and the spillway, kauri forests, trains and cars, and group photographs of the personnel. Description: Photograph album formerly belonging to Phyllis Johnston. Contains images taken during three holidays in New Zealand. Compiler of albums, and photographer(s), are unidentified. Album is extensively captioned though few people are identified. - Motoring trip of North Island in January 1931, following family on a camping trip in a A-Model Ford. Route, as suggested by image order in album, goes via Hastings, Wairoa, Lake Waikaremoana, Morere, Gisborne, Opotiki, Ohope, Whakatane, Rotorua, Whakarewarewa, Tauranga, Waihi, Thames, Mercury Bay, Tui Glen, Waiwera, Waipu, Whangarei, Bay of Islands, Mount Messenger and Dawson Falls. Images feature camp grounds and sites, car with tent awning erected and with gear packed alongside, picnicking scenes, motoring scenes, and tourist sights on route. Images and sites of note are: Tongoio Falls; Aniwaniwa Falls; road between Gisborne and Opotiki including ford, adjacent ranges and valleys, bush, and coastal views; Whakatane War Memorial; Road between Whakatane and Rotorua, including bush, Lake Rotoma, Hongi's Track, and Tikitere geothermal area; Whakarewarewa, including tourist group with Guide Rangi, Maori children bathing, and Frog Pond; Tauranga Harbour and railway bridge; gorge between Waihi and Thames; bullocks hauling Kauri logs south of Coromandel; 'Rotten Row' cabins at Waipu; Christ Church, bay and sea shore, and view of town from the flagstaff, Russell; cream being delivered by row boat in Bay of Islands; Zane Grey Camp, Otehei Bay; car on barge crossing between Russell and Paihia (including car transfer to shore); Williams Memorial Church, Paihia; and Waitangi Falls. Description: Published by J. D. Wickham, [1879?], missing pages 93-94. Includes many annotations by Cowan, and loose papers including correspondence, clippings, drafts, and photographs. Also an image of Patara Te Tuhi, and a sketch map of the Waikato District tipped in to the back cover. Correspondence includes a letter from C. [Charles?] Garlick, of Taneatua, dated 31 January 1928; a letter from A. R. Weal, of Pukeatua, Te Awamutu, dated 20 February 1930, which contains information about Te Awamutu Troop, Waikato Cavalry, provided by his father T. Weal; and a letter by George Graham [signed also as Hori Kereama], of Auckland, dated 11 March 1942. Graham's letter includes discussion relating to the legal status of the Treaty of Waitangi, Māori participation in both World Wars, Kīngitanga, and Māori leadership. Description: The microfilm comprises six journals (1852-1867), copy of typescript letter (1840) and `Pilgrimage to Jerusalem' by Luce (7-13 Oct 1841) The journals are described as private journals; vols 1-4 covering 1852 to 1863 and Luce's service including Portsmouth, Karatch Bay, Malta, Cape Coast, Sierra Leone and Dahomey Luce writes of his service in New Zealand, Australia and the Pacific in volumes 5 and 6. Volume 5 (1864-1866) includes an index of contents, notes and clippings and detailed descriptions of the `Esk' being at Auckland, going to Tauranga, the East Coast and Poverty Bay, Wellington, New Hebrides, Fiji and Sydney, with descriptions of cattle trade, a journey to Wanganui. Also includes lists of letters written and sent, and received, readable books in the ship's library and of `Officers and dates of dining with me'. Volume 6 (1866-1867), which is described as a very rough notebook, includes a photograph of Luce (1865) and clippings and covers the `Esk' being in Auckland, Thames, Norfolk Island, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Fiji, Tonga and the Friendly Islands. Includes description of a trip round and up the Waikato River and a cruise from Thames to Wellington. Source of title - Supplied Luce served with the Royal Navy from 1840; these journals cover the period 1852 to 1867 and include time served on the `Esk' in New Zealand, Australia and the Pacific Quantity: 1 microfilm reel(s). 0.02 Linear Metres.
