Description: View from the Munro property towards the two-storied Greenwood homestead across the water. Two Maori canoes are drawn up on the beach to the left. Horses and cattle graze in the foreground close to trees and one standing and two seated figures are indicated on a bank left of centre, looking across the bay Compare a very similar photograph by Daniel Manders Beere, in the Photographic Archive - Matakana, 1863, negative 1/2-096074. Martin is known to have used Beere's photographs as the basis for some of his paintings There is also a similar view drawn in ink by James Coutts Crawford in his sketchbook E-125-023/024 - Tamahua or Mt Hamilton. See MS-Papers-9389-31 for published summary & photographs Original owner was Alexander Trotter who purchased 330 acres in 1903 in the parish of Matakana. In 2008 the land was owned by his descendants Ron Trotter and his wife Eileen, and Ian (Ron's son) and his wife Joanna, as family trusts.
