Description: View across the lake, with Mokoia Island in the background, beyond a headland. A family group of four Maori are seated and standing on the near shore, watching three large waka crossing the lake. The group includes a woman with a baby inside her cloak on her back. Cabbage trees and other trees on both sides. Likely to date from 1841, when Merrett travelled to Taupo and Rotorua with Ernst Dieffenbach.
