Description: Each poster shows a montage design based on photographs. The "Korero Hau Kura" set contains posters for the following Maori proverbs: Kia mau ki te aka matua; kei mau ki te aka taepa (Grasp the vine planted in the ground, not the vine from the heavens) He poporo tu ki te hamuti (A cherished one, standing undaunted in adversity) Ka tuhi Kaitangata (A mark of Kaitangata) Hauhake tu, ka to a Matariki (A time to harvest as Matariki sets) Ae ko Hotumauea te tangata nei (Yes indeed this person is Hotumauea) Ka maru koe i toku pureke, he kahu pitongatonga (The hem of my fine cloak will shelter you) Nga Reo o Aotearoa, "Voices of Aotearoa"; a collection of treasured Maori stories, contains posters about the following stories: Arai-te-uru - Canoe which brought Rongo-i-tua and his people to New Zealand. It was wrecked at Matakaea and its kumara cargo became the Moeraki boulders. Kahukura - the story of his tricking the patupaiarehe while they were fishing Kuiarau - while bathing in a small lake at Rotorua she was taken by taniwha. Her husband Tamahika asked the gods to kill the taniwha, and they did so by boiling the lake waters. Kaiwhakaruaki - a man-eating taniwha who was killed by warriors near Parapara Golden Bay, after a fight during which he killed many of the warriors. Kua mau i te ao - the story of the naming of Mauao (Mount Maunganui), Puwhenua's mountain suitor who was caught (mau) by the light of day (ao). Description: 46 images of the Duke of Gloucester's tour of New Zealand in 1934-5 including: nine of his visit to Rotorua including Maori kapa haka; one of veterans at the bridge of remembrance in Christchurch; one of him opening Tekapo bridge and another of the party at Tekapo House hotel; one of him in a crowd outside the railway station in Hokitika; one of him inspecting a parade of nurses; one of him visiting a traditional whare; two of him as a jockey at a race meeting; three of the felling of a kauri tree; seven of his stay at Longbeach sheep station, Ashburton County; and two of him at the Waitangi memorial. Description: Photographs taken during the royal tour of the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall and York in 1901. Scenes include the arrival of the royal visitors at various places, by ship, Royal carriages, and Royal train; ceremonies and rites welcoming them; views of triumphal arches erected for the tour, including Marble Arch (Queen Street, Auckland), the Auckland Harbour Board Arch, the Citizen's Arch (Wellesley Street), and the Government Arch (City of Wellington). Other ceremonies are associated with the presentation of war-medals; the laying of foundation stones (Victoria College for Maori Girls, Parnell, Auckland), the Wellington Town Hall, and the Queens Memorial Statue in Dunedin); and the march past and inspection of various guards, troops and veterans. One photograph shows Lord Ranfurly in Auckland, reading the proclamation extending the boundaries of the colony to include the Cook Islands (p 16). Quantity: 1 album(s) Album(s). Description: Most of the photographs relate to the remedial treatment camp set up in Rotorua. On the first page, the photographs are flanked by newspaper cuttings about another camp set up for the same purpose at Papakura, Auckland. The photographs on this page may relate to the Papakura camp. Most of the photographs are of groups of men doing various forms of excersise, and playing sport. There are group photographs of men in military uniform and others of groups posing with tennis raquets and medicine balls. Other photographs record the launch of "Bonds for Bombers" campaign in Rotorua, March 1942, and the ANZAC parade 1942 (also Rotorua). There are seven original cartoon drawings of military personnel by Stenberg. These were used in the Rotorua camp's newspaper. The photographs are supported by many newspaper cuttings about the camps and their purpose. There is a photograph relating to the camp newspaper "The Arawa Guerilla" and two copies of the paper are pasted onto the same page. Other newspaper cuttings and two programmes relate to a very successful entertainment developed by the men in the Rotorua camp. This was "Splitzkreig Army Review" which from September 1942 to March 1943 toured the upper North Island and raised 2,000 pounds for the Patriotic Fund. Remedial treatment camps were set up for men who had been judged by the military medical authorities as unfit for military service, but whoes ailments were considered curable. Examples of the sorts of conditions treated are knee problems, flat feet, \"underdevelopment,\" nervous conditions, and chronic backache. The Rotorua camp occupied Arawa Park, and the racecourse. Description: Photographs of deer carcasses being processed for export at Consolidated Traders Ltd's works at Rongatea and Rotorua. Also featured are carcasses of wild pigs awaiting processing and frozen goat carcasses bagged and ready for export. Several photographs show bales of deer pelts packed and covered with hessian. Deer photographed on Rex Giles' farm, Forest Park, at Maroa north of Taupo. Most of these photographs were in albums of plastic sleaves and were probably used as promotional material for the company. The prints were removed from the albums as the type of plastic bonds with the emusion of the print. Quantity: 54 b&w original photographic print(s).
