A large number of houses of all sorts including some state houses and art deco styled houses. Other localities include Gordonston, Tauwhare, Huntly, Waingaro, Rotowaro, Raglan, Ngaruawahia, and Okete. These include much the same sorts of buildings as well as churches, schools, hotels, public halls, cemeteries, and bridges. Description: Transparency slides of Mr E G Williams' (Edmund Gardner Williams') travel in New Zealand in 1959. This sheet of slides includes a view of cows in trial harnesses at the Ruakura Agricultural Research Centre; the Anchor Butter factory at Te Awamutu (Te Awamutu Dairy Factory); the main street in Te Awamutu and the Riverina Hotel; the Waikato River from various angles; the Sand, Shingle, Metal works beside the Waikato River; two views of audience and participants at the Ngaruawahia Regatta; Queen Street in Auckland and views in the area including Auckland Harbour, Rangitoto, Devonport area, Panmure and Mount Wellington, and the crater on Mount Eden. Slides on this sheet are numbered 408-432 with gaps for those removed for lectures on New Zealand. Arrangement: Mr Williams transferred slides (nos. 414, 420, 426-427) showing Main Street in Te Awamutu; looking down the Waikato River with the road bridge; Queen Street, Auckland and view of Rangitoto and Auckland Harbour. These were taken as part of a representative collection on New Zealand for various lectures which he gave when he returned to England. The lecture series are filed in later sequences. Description: Portraits of elderly Maori women with facial tattos (moko kauwae) most taken by Marti Friedlander for Michael King's book `Moko,' first published in 1972. All of the subjects lived in the North Island of New Zealand. Most of them are identified. Photographs relating to Te Puea Herangi. These include - Portraits of Te Puea at different times during her life. Photographs relating to her work, such as the group of orphaned children she fostered after the flu epidemic of 1918. The construction of the ceremonial waka (canoe) Ngatokimatawhaorua. Building works at Turangawaiwai Marae, in particular the meeting house Mahinarangi (1929), and the Maori monarch's official residence, Turongo House including the opening of this in 1938. Te Puea's tangi, and her coffin being carried up Taupiri Mountain. Maori monarch's include - King Mahuta Tawhiao (1855?-1912). King Koroki (1909-1966). Queen Te Arikinui Te Atairangikaahu (1931-2006). Maori soldiers from the period of the First World War. The Parliament House (Turangawaiwai House) at Ngaruawahia (built 1912-1919).
