Description: Album of photographs of early Wellington, circa 1880s to 1900s. One view shows the wreck of the "Oliver Lang" at Kaiwharawhara. Other views of the harbour show sailing ships, the SS Doric at Queens Wharf, the arrival of the RMS Aorangi, the small ship Manawatu in port, and the Cobar ferry. Away from the inner city and harbour there are three views of native bush with a stream running through, and one of the house under construction. The album is not full, with photographs only found on pages 8-15, and 19-21. The view of the Union Bank of Australia on the corner of Featherston Street and Lambton Quay shows Johnny Martin's fountain in the foreground. There are several views of inner Wellington, some from Bolton Street, with others showing Government House and Offices. The Chief Post Office is seen behind the wharf where the ship Manawatu is moored (p 14) This is the first of two albums which may have been given to the Misses Yamerton as birthday gifts at the same time, both having the same birthday greeting card, and both having a similar collection of photographs, though not all are the same.
