By: Northern advocate (Newspaper)

Description: Two Maori walk along a beach and wonder whether the Greeks will be putting in a land claim. One of them suggests that they would be better selling the land off to the highest bidder and solve their debt crisis. Context: A controversial book, To the End of the Earth, claims to contain evidence that Greeks, Spanish and Egyptians settled in New Zealand long before the Maori people. Greece today is in a state of near collapse because of their level of debt. There is a quip about the government's controversial sale of land assets to overseas buyers and also about the continuing saga of land claims. Quantity: 1 digital cartoon(s).

Clark, Laurence, 1949- :"Will Maori be paying for all the damage the WIND causes?" 22 S...

Date: 2012

From: Clark, Laurence, 1949- :Digital cartoons

By: Northern advocate (Newspaper)

Reference: DCDL-0022959

Description: Two people, a man and a woman, are seen walking in a wind battered street. The man asks whether Maori will be paying for the damage the wind causes. The woman replies that it is probably the reason they are not claiming for earthquakes. In 2012 the New Zealand Maori Council lodged a claim to the Waitangi Tribunal asserting ownership rights to water in response to the National Government's proposal to sell part of its shares in State owned power companies to foreign interests. The claim caused controversy, with many disputing Maori claims to rights over water and suggesting they may claim other natural resources. Quantity: 1 digital cartoon(s).
