Description: Shows Buller River, between high cliffs at night, the moon breaking through clouds and a canoe containing three or four figures being poled along Probably dates from Fox, Brunner, Heaphy and Kehu's exploring trip from Nelson to the West Coast of the South Island for 5 months in 1846. Other Titles - [Canoe on river, steep cliffs either side. 18--] Inscriptions: Recto - bottom right - Buller Quantity: 1 watercolour(s). Physical Description: Pencil & watercolour 368 x 253 mm Provenance: By descent to Wilkie Family Processing information: Painting formerly titled "Canoe on river, steep cliffs either side", until title deciphered in 1993.
