Description: Album of photographs taken by Albert Percy Godber between 1912 and 1914. Images include Godber's family, a few of identified people (names listed in the name file), and many with no identification. One image of a group of fitters and turners apprentices at the Petone Railway Workshops, taken in 1913, has all the apprentices named (listed in the full record for Godber negative, APG-0457-1/2) Views of the old Central Fire Station at Petone, and the new Petone Fire Brigade Station; the aftermath of a huge fire at Cooks' Cooperage (on January 14, 1914); and a locomotive which had rolled. Local Petone scenes include the Petone Council Chambers and town clock, and a number of houses in the area, including the home of Godber's friend Tom Mather; Korokoro bush, and the Korokoro Reservoir. Away from the Wellington area, Godber photographed a number of houses in Clonbern Road area; the Makatote Viaduct and the Manganui-o-te-Ao Viaduct. Description: There are three main groups of images in this album. The first is about a climb up Mount Tarawera in September 1908. It includes views of the craters and the rift resulting from the eruption, and views over the surrounding countryside from the summit including lakes Tarawera and Rotomahana. The party also did some sailing in a launch on the lakes before moving on to the Waimangu thermal area and Wakarewarewa. The second group feature railway viaducts being constructed on the main trunk line in May 1908. Those depicted are the Makatote Viaduct, the Hapuawhenua Viaduct, and the Taonui Viaduct. There are two photographs of the road bridge over the Makatote River, and two photographs of the party picnicing in the bush by the river. The third group relates to climbing Mounts Ruapehu and Ngauruhoe over Easter 1909, and again over Easter 1910. There are views of Ngauruhoe erupting, the Mangaehuehu Glacier on Mount Ruapehu, the Crater Lake, the Ohinepango Spring, the party on both mountains, and a view Of Paretetaitonga Peak on Mount Ruapenu. Other images are photographic postcards one of which shows a group of Ohakune Boy Scouts on Mount Ruapehu (this group also includes four women). Quantity: 1 album(s) Album(s).

Description: The "Pipe Bridge" on the Hutt River, photograph taken by Albert Percy Godber, ca 1910. Date from an image dated November 1909 of this bridge under construction in Godber Album (Vol 110, p 52). Original print at Pa1-q-103 (Godber album Vol 110, p 52), along with image of the bridge under construction in November 1909. Inscriptions: Album page - New ferro-concrete bridge over Hutt River for water pipes & traffic. Known as the 'Pipe Bridge' as it carried the water main from the Wainuiomata Reservoir to Wellington, replacing an earlier pipe bridge. Built in 1909, it lasted 45 years before being demolished when the present pioneer prestressed concrete bridge was built dowmstream. Description: Photographs taken by Albert Percy Godber, chiefly between 1934 and 1947, but including copies of some of his earlier photographs. Views include trips in the North and South Islands, and views of his home and family, especially in Whiteman's Valley Road and the area around Silverstream. Also various scenes of floods (Hutt River), and storm damage. Photographs associated with roads and railways include steam locomotives, tunnels, bridges and viaducts, some under construction. Among the trip photographs are views of Ngaruawahia, including King Koroki's house (opened in 1938) and the Maori Parliament House. Description: Album of photographs chiefly taken by Albert Percy Godber, relating to his family, his work and his interests. Family photographs include portraits of his wife (Laura) and two children (William and Phyllis), and scenes of their home in Whiteman's Valley Road, Silverstream; views of the Hutt Valley including large numbers of cars travelling to Trentham Racecourse, and the Hutt River. Another group of images relate to a holiday at the Mendip Hills Homestead in Canterbury, with scenes of farm life, including haymaking, merino sheep, and farm buildings. During their stay in the South Island Godber also took photographs of Dunedin (including the Ross Reservoir, Otago Boys' High School, Seacliff Mental Hospital, the 1926 Dunedin Exhibition, and the Hillside Railway Workshops); Invercargill (including the Invercargill Railway Workshops); Stewart Island, Moeraki, Tuatapere, Waiau River, Oamaru and Port Chalmers. Various railway stations in Canterbury and Otago, the Burnside Iron Mills, and the Rosslyn Mills. Godber was a volunteer fireman with the Petone Fire Brigade with the album including views of the building, groups of firemen, fire engines and other fire fighting equipment, and a building in Petone damaged by fire. In his work with New Zealand Railways, mainly at the Petone Railway Workshops, he took interior photographs of various buildings, including the Machine Shop and finishing benches, the engine room, lathes, boilers, and fitting shops. He also took photographs of many of the steam engines that were built and worked on at the workshops. One scene shows a group of men watching a fight. Many images show his interest in logging railways, particularly in the Piha, Karekare, Anawhata area. Scenes of logging camps, various methods of transporting logs including bullock teams, logging trains, and dams created and then tripped to send logs down by river, and timber mills. Other topics covered in Godber's photographs are scenes at Maori marae and meeting houses, with some of the people identified; Maori carving and rafter designs; beekeeping, and gold mining.
